Esports, una opción más allá del puro ocio

Esports have already become the number one leisure option for many of the citizens of our country. Although the current Spanish market is still in the maturity phase with respect to esports, there are already many great brands and companies that decide to enter the ecosystem.

Recently we knew the case where a teacher in the United States used esports not only to teach their students to play video games. Thom Gibson spent a full week to showcase all that lies behind the big gaming competitions. The promotion of the event through digital campaigns, agreements with local stores for their promotion, creation of brackets system, live broadcasts; they were just some of the functions that the students had to carry out, converting the activity into a meta-teaching beyond pure leisure.

If esports can boast of something it is of their value system. Teamwork, dedication, commitment and the desire to excel are some of the sports principles of electronic sports that have led educational institutions to create their own league systems. In Spain we have two clear examples: The IESports League and the University Esports League, where schools and universities from all over Spain compete. The steps of recognition by large institutions are still a lot more light on the professionalization of the sector. A clear example we saw in the latest statements of the Inter Olympic Committee.

Many other areas begin to see the skills that can be enhanced through esports. Many companies begin to introduce electronic sports as a team building activity with the aim of improving relationships among their employees. Through the organization of intra-company competitions, we can improve the relationship of our colleagues and teamwork in a totally relaxed environment.

Let's use electronic sports as something more than just an entertainment tool. There are many possibilities beyond entertainment that can mean very advantageous changes in institutions and companies, knowing how to take advantage of them is the key to success.
